How to Use a Button Lift and Poma Lift
1. Lining Up for the Lift
Stand in an orderly line and move forward steadily with the queue. Have your lift ticket ready well before reaching the gate. Read the posted lift instructions. A button lift is always self-service. Do not wear long scarves or any loose clothing that could get caught in the cable or button.
2. Getting Ready at the Loading Area
If you have poles, hold them in the hand farthest from the cable or rope. Move to the marked loading position. With your free hand, grab the rope or the button attached to the cable.
3. Starting the Ride
Wait calmly for the button to approach and grab it with your extended hand before it passes your body. Guide the button behind your thighs and lean lightly against it. For rope tows, you can grab the rope whenever you wish – hold on where there are knots or reinforced sections to make gripping easier. Taking a small gliding step in the direction of travel helps you start smoothly and reduces pulling.
4. Balance on the Lift
Stand evenly on your skis or snowboard. Lean gently on the button – not on the cable. You can hold the button with one hand and the cable with the other. On a rope tow, you may hold the rope with both hands.
5. During the Ride
Do not play around on the lift. Fooling around endangers yourself and others – and may even damage the lift.
6. Riding Up the Lift
Stay on the track – do not pull sideways. You may exit only at designated spots.
7. If You Fall
If you fall, release the button or rope immediately and move quickly off the track. Skiers behind you may not be able to avoid you if the track is blocked.
8. Preparing to Exit
About 30 meters before the exit, there is a warning sign, and the exit area is clearly marked. Get ready to exit in time and make sure your gloves or clothing are not wrapped around the cable or rope and that the button doesn’t get caught in your clothes.
9. Exiting the Lift
Wait calmly until you reach the marked exit area, then release the button or rope. If there’s a hazardous situation at the exit, press the red STOP button and wait for the staff to arrive – explain what happened.
10. Don’t Stay in the Exit Area
Move immediately aside after exiting to make room for others. This helps prevent collisions.
