How to Use a T-Bar Lift

How to Use a T-Bar Lift

1. Lining Up for the Lift
Stand in an orderly lift line and move forward steadily with the queue. Have your lift ticket ready well before reaching the gate. Read the posted lift instructions. If you’re unsure, ask the lift operator for help – their job is to ensure both guidance and safety. Before the loading area, there is a waiting zone and/or automatic gate where you line up side by side and wait for your turn. Move quickly to the loading spot and stand side by side, ready for the T-bar.

2. Getting Ready at the Loading Area
If you’re using poles, hold them in the hand farthest from the approaching T-bar. Move to the marked loading position. With your free hand, grab the T-bar and place it gently behind your thighs – or between your legs if you’re snowboarding.

3. Starting the Ride
Wait calmly – the T-bar will pull you forward smoothly. Don’t sit on the bar; instead, lean lightly against it. A small gliding step in the direction of travel makes the start easier and reduces the pull.

4. Safety on the Lift
Stand evenly on your skis or board to maintain balance. Adjust the T-bar height according to the shorter person if you’re riding in pairs – this helps both stay balanced.

5. During the Ride
Do not play or fool around on the lift. It’s dangerous for you and others and may also damage the lift.

6. Preparing to Exit
Stay on the track – don’t zigzag or pull to the side. You may only exit at designated spots.

7. Exiting the Lift
If you fall, release the T-bar immediately and move off the track as quickly as possible. Skiers behind you may not have time to avoid you if the track is blocked.

8. Don’t Stay in the Exit Area
About 30 meters before the exit there is a warning sign, and the exit itself is clearly marked with direction indicators. Prepare to exit in time and make sure the T-bar doesn’t get caught in your clothes.
